This is because bamboo is a tree. Like any tree trunk, the diameter at the base is larger than at the top. For example, the bamboo cane - Ø10-12 x 400 cm on its thickest side, the diameter will be about 10 to 12 cm, while the other side can never be determined because it has to do with the growth of the bamboo.
